CANSA
Having completed the voluntary training course I spent three years with the West Rand, Gauteng Cancer Association, working with terminally ill patients facing the end of their lives.
School of Natural Health Sciences – Stress Management
Stress management is a wide spectrum of techniques and psychotherapies aimed at controlling a person’s level of stress, especially chronic stress, usually for the purpose of and for the motive of improving everyday functions.
School of Natural Health Sciences – Life Coaching
As a coach, my obligation is not to provide clients with the answers to all their questions, but to help them find those answers for themselves. This modality is a perfect tool when working with dying clients and their loved ones.)
Centre Palliative Care
Palliative care is an interdisciplinary approach in specialized medical and nursing care for people with chronic conditions. It focuses on providing relief from the symptoms, pain, physical stress, and mental stress at any stage of illness. The goal is to improve the quality of life for both the patient and their family.
Bereavement & Grief Counselling Diploma
Bereavement and grief counseling focuses on the loss and death of a loved one. The main task of a grief counsellor would help the person acknowledge their loss and talk about it. The chaos of grief can be at the same time overwhelming and a refuge to retreat into. For those who are suffering there is no consolation and for those around them words prove appalingling difficult. Working with the bereaved deals with an important aspect of counselling. The sense of loss, intense grief and depression that follows bereavement can be almost unbearable and the need for counselling is often a desperate one
Eliademy – Certified Death Doula
End of Life Doulas otherwise known as death doulas or end of life guides, provide support and emotional care for people with life-limiting illnesses. They are hired by either a terminally ill patient or their family and work with both to assist the dying patient and their family during this special phase of life.
IAP COLLEGE – Certified Death Doula
Death has been a constant throughout my life. I discovered that I was comfortable working with the dying and have assisted in numerous transitions. End of Life Doulas complement the care provided by family members by supporting clients with individualized, compassionate care in a number of ways, including emotional, spiritual, informational and physical support, which greatly helps to lower stress levels, aid in comfort and promote personalized, even positive, dying passages for clients and their loved ones.
UNIVERSITY OF GLASGOW End of Life Care: Challenges and Innovation
Death itself may be uncertain, but how we die involves many challenges. With increasingly ageing populations, we are living longer but dying more slowly. New ideas around end of life care are therefore emerging in different contexts. This course assisted me in discovering the patterns and global trends taking place in palliative care and exploring these new approaches from a social science and humanities prospective.
UDEMY Mindfulness 1, 2, 3 and Master
Mindfulness is an extreme sense of awareness. We can observe our thoughts and actions along with the feelings and emotions of others. By focusing on remaining in this center of consciousness, we can ensure that our efforts will not propagate suffering. We can realize the world for all of its beauty and wonder. We can recognize the miracle that it is to be alive.
ACADEMY OF MODERN APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY – Mindfulness Practitioner
The key to Mindfulness is not so much what we choose to focus on but the quality of the awareness that we bring to the moment. Through the practice of mindful listening, we use self-awareness when our own internal monologue begins, or our mind wanders or our thoughts race ahead to what might happen later. Mindfulness allows us to refocus on being present with what is happening in the present moment. This quality of attention enhances our interactions with the dying person and their loved ones.
UDEMY – PROFESSIONAL HOLISTIC MASSAGE COURSE
Gentle holistic massage therapy can help decrease anxiety, agitation, pain and joint stiffness. It also impacts quality of comfort for the dying person by increasing overall relaxation. Massage therapy is a nurturing part of the dying experience. Gentle and positive touch is powerful because it is rooted in the tactile experience we develop at birth, with touch being the first sensation that welcomes us into this world, it stands to reason that these should be the last perceptions when we leave this world.
UDEMY – Professional Counselling Grief & Bereavement Diploma Course
When it comes to death, people grieve in different ways. We are aware of the existence of death and the futility of avoiding it on a personal level but we often fear it and are unprepared as the enormity of it and the associated emotions. Although grieving is a long process in the main, there are correct ways in which to grieve so that the experience leads towards a healing conclusion.
THE KEW TRAINING ACADEMY – Professional Counselling Grief & Bereavement Diploma
The pain and suffering that we experience can be overwhelming at times. Suffering a loss of a loved one and recovering from grief are some of the hardest things we may do in life. For most people grief can run its course in an uncomplicated manner, however some people may need additional support. Therapy can be helpful in moving one forward in all types of grief.
